Acknowledged as South Florida’s own “Queen of Soul”, Valerie Tyson is one the most sought after vocalists in South Florida. Valerie Tyson was born August 1st, in Hollywood Florida and has been entertaining for over 30 years. Showing an interest in music early in life, she started singing in school plays, talent shows and musicals. In middle school one of her musical mentors June Capezza, introduced her to the world of Opera, classical music, and Barbra Streisand, which is where her love and passion for opera, classical, and pop genres began. Although she had always had dreams of performing Opera that all changed when she heard “Once you get started” by Rufus and Chaka Khan. The beautiful and strong voice of Chaka Khan inspired Valerie to sing R&B.

Throughout high school Valerie was involved in various local and state competitions as a soloist as well as being a part of the various chorus ensembles. She won various medals within these competitions. Her last year in high school she worked at the Forge Lounge with the “Life Band” subbing for another South Florida Great “Miss Deedee Wilde.”

In 1988 Valerie put together her own band, performed and toured across the Country. She also opened up shows for Al Green, Janet Jackson, New Edition, Spyro Gyro, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. In 1992 Valerie and her band were crowned “The Pace R&B showcase winner”.  They began to play all over South Florida and gained loving and supporting fans. During this time Valerie met the Jazz musician George Tandy and decided to join his band, “Mangos” and gained the opportunity to performed her other beloved music genre, Jazz. She played with the “Mangos” for 12 years.
